Matthew Ireland

Computer Scientist @ The University of Cambridge

Matthew Ireland

Brief biography

I am a Part II Computer Scientist at Churchill College, Cambridge (England).

I grew up in a small village in North Wales. I attended school in Chester, England, and took A-levels in Physics, Mathematics and Further Mathematics. I then spent a year working in the laser micromachining industry before moving to Cambridge to study Computer Science.

Interests

I have a very wide range of interests, across both Computer Science and Physics.

Academically, I am still at the stage of not having settled down into any one particular area, but am currently focusing on software-defined networking, sensor networks, digital signal processing and — totally independently of the above — quantum computing and DNA computing.

Outside of academia, my hobbies include photonics, laser physics, analog electronics, interferometry, microfabrication, amateur radio (MW0MIE), photography, astronomy, hiking, sailing and playing the tuba, piano and flute.

Contact

Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have anything to ask or any material you wish to discuss. For quick enquiries, I prefer IRC in the first instance and can be found lurking in #dah on EFnet. For more in depth enquiries, please feel free to drop me an email.
